Where still-life photography is required to present products on line (or in print); consistent, quality imagery is necessary to complete the trust and rapport built by the overall site or media design. On websites, if imagery is poor, unclear or slow to load, the visitor may not be able to make an informed purchasing decision; or worse still, be put off by the lack of attention to detail or quality.
Your ‘virtual shelves' should be stocked with imagery that answers any questions that the supporting text can't and should allow multiple views as required to complete the information required by the visitor. The same rules apply when we're designing for any printed sales & marketing material.
